Four years between assessments is a long time, human complacency can set in at any time and before long you may find your training standards and consistency lapsing. Reflect regularly on your performance and look to maintain and improve it every lesson. Consider your performance on your last assessment, the indicators on your performance data, and the feedback from an examiner you may have got on a support call about how your pupils perform on their driving test.

Please do not leave things to the last minute! Assessment day is your opportunity to showcase your skills and get feedback on the areas of your professional development you’ve been continually working on since your last assessment.

Your development is an ongoing process, and your professional training should not stop at your last assessment. The best way to prepare for any assessment is continuous personal development with you putting time aside to invest in developing your skills as a driving instructor. Don’t be one of the many ADI’s who have left their development to the last minute have been disappointed with the result they got on assessment day.

Every ADI is on a development learning journey, every trainer should try to be the best they can be by taking it upon themselves to learn new skills, develop current ones and practice something new every day. When there is a focus on your professional development, not only will there be an improvement in what you do around delivering the nationals standards, but your confidence that you are doing the right things as a trainer increases.

There is a direct impact of delivering consistent high standards for you and your driving school. Your grade improves as your learning and consistency improves and your business benefits from pupils who are happy to shout your name out loud as the instructor that helped them achieve more than they ever thought possible.

Take all the worry out of your next assessment by seeking out regular development training from an industry recognised ORDIT registered trainer or training organisation. High quality training will help you deliver lessons of the highest standards every day and not just the day of a standards check.
