Motorists to be paid £3,000 a year to give up cars
Government-funded trial will see drivers who ditch their cars given £3,000 per year to spend on public transport
AutoExpress has reported that the UK Government will begin a trial of more than 100 drivers, who will give up their vehicles in return for up to £3,000 per year.
The Government is aiming to reduce air pollution and congestion roads, and the money provided will go towards public transport, electric car hire and bicycle sharing schemes.
The scheme is currently being rolled out Coventry, with a view to taking it further if it is a success.
It is hoped that the scheme will eventually be privately funded by bus and train companies.
