At the first-ever  Driving Instructor Convention, records were broken. A staggering £4,742 was raised for the Speed of Sight charity from the attendees. This new ADI event proved a massive success for attendees, the industry and one charity in particular.

Dining out

A charity auction and raffle held at the Networking Dinner the night before the convention raised over £4,000. The next day, a Tombola raffle the next day raised another impressive total of over £700. It represents a substantial amount of money raised for the Speed of Sight charity.

The charity is looking to invest in a new car, so the contribution represents a significant contribution to its fundraising efforts. This new vehicle will play a crucial role in their mission to allow more blind, partially sighted, and disabled individuals to get behind the wheel and experience driving a car.

Shocking

Organisers of the event, including Intelligent Instructor and the ADINJC, expressed special thanks to all those instructors who bought tickets or bid for items. Alongside the delegates, they thank those organisations who kindly donated the wide range of valuable and attractive prizes.

Meanwhile, Mike Newman, the charity’s founder, was shocked by the total raised when told.

“Say it again, it’s difficult to take in,” he stated. He later added, “It looks like our next car is on its way”.

Three into one

Richard Storrs, Founder of Intelligent Instructor and organiser of the The Driving Instructor Convention described the fundraising as “an incredible feat at a fantastic event and for a wonderful charity”.

He added: “Very special thanks to all those companies who provide prizes at the weekend, Autoglym, Bridgestone, Bright Coaching, Confident Drivers, Dual Drive, FBTC Accountancy Services, Green Penny, HCC Solicitors, Knowledgeable Instructor Training, Nextbase, Road Angel and Young Driver.”
