From discovering the age people were when making their purchase and the most popular model to the broken features their vehicle may have had, we asked a range of questions to help us discover the truth about the UK’s first cars.

Discover some of our findings below:

  • 1 in 5 UK residents bought their first car when they were 18 years old
  • The average first car costs £3,782 in the UK
  • The most popular first car in the UK is a Ford Fiesta

Dayinsure’s team had this to say: “Buying a first car is a memorable event for everyone, and even years down the line we often think back fondly to our first motor. We wanted to learn a little bit more about this important time in a person’s life and so conducted a survey to put together a picture of the average first car in the UK.”

“From where they buy their cars to who they look to for advice, we found out some fascinating facts about the buying habits of the general public when it comes to their first cars. As 1 in 5 told us they bought their first car at the young age of 18, knowing the average price paid for a first car in the UK is £3,782 certainly shakes the stereotype of young people buying a cheap pair of wheels for their first car. And, with 66% of people telling us their first car was worth what they paid for it, it looks like the higher price tag paid off!”
