Highways England begins search for partner to build Britain’s longest road tunnel

Highways England is today inviting tenders for its largest ever contract, the £2 billion package to build the longest road tunnel in Britain that sits at the heart of the proposed Lower Thames Crossing, the most ambitious roads project for a generation.

Britain’s biggest road project opens to traffic eight months early

The upgraded road was originally planned to open to traffic by December 2020, but now the last of the 24/7 roadworks have been removed and the new lanes are available for traffic, eight months ahead of schedule.
