Young Driver Focus '24 conference report
The Young Driver Focus ’24 full report has been released.
Covering the day’s events at the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall, London, this is for all road safety professionals, officers and driver trainers dealing with young drivers.
This was the tenth annual event, which is widely respected for bringing new insights and methods for dealing with young driver dangers.
Driver training
FirstCar, The RAC Foundation and Road Safety GB organise and run the event every May.
For many ADIs, the conference could seem outside the mainstream of driver training.
However, driver training is possibly the most important personal safety scheme any of us undergo.
Driving or being in a moving motor vehicle is the most dangerous activity we will ever be involved in.
The statistics speak for themselves.
As driving instructors, our job is fundamental to the smooth, safe running of modern society.
Understanding how some of the most vulnerable people behind the wheel act on the road and why is essential to the work we do.
Behind the wheel
Young Driver Focus (YDF) is one of the most established young driver-focused events in the road safety calendar.
It brings together those who are keen on keeping our most at-risk road users safe, from professionals and academics to politicians and youth workers.
Attendees hear the latest research, ideas and interventions for learners and newly qualified drivers.
The organisers from FirstCar have a real grasp of bringing together experts and industry voices.
They instigate discussions on road safety for young drivers and explore the facts, figures, and futures.
For road safety professionals, including driving instructors working at the coal face, this is an invaluable resource for teaching and producing safer young drivers.
