You cannot currently apply for a new provisional licence because of coronavirus (COVID-19).
You can still apply if you’re a key worker - for example, a doctor, nurse or school teacher.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the DVLA have stopped issuing provisional licenses. We have seen several rogue businesses offering to secure provisional licenses online. Only key workers can currently apply for a provisional via the DVLA.
- If you’re looking to get started when things get back to a new normal, our advice is to regularly check the .gov website for updates. There will no doubt be a rush of people, but applications will be processed as quickly as possible.
- If you’re a key worker and need a provisional licence urgently, contact DVLA to check if you’re eligible and how to apply.
- If you’ve already applied for a new provisional licence, you do not need to contact DVLA. Your application may take longer than usual because of coronavirus.
