The Big Learner Relay in aid of Children in Need is back.

The annual event was the brainchild of ADI Lou Walsh nine years ago. Since then the event has raised over £500,000 for the charity. This is the driver training industry getting in their cars and driving support all over the country for the TV fundraising event.

In short, Lou Walsh sets off on a long journey around the British Isles via the back of learner cars.. The convoy is led by chosen training vehicles that get to  wear the Pudsey Topbox as the leader. The relay means this is handed over to the next chosen instructor vehicle in another town or city. Over 150 different leaders will head the procession around the country.

Digital drive for fundraising

This year the event has digital support care of MyDriveTime (MDT).

“We’re delighted to be supporting Lou and the team,” says Dan Hill, founder of MDT.  “The Big Learner Relay again in 2022 with a slightly different take on last year’s app.”

Lou and the team will be traversing the country from Aberdeen to Goodwood!

“As she travels, we’ll be tracking her route and position on the website,” explains Dan. “You can see where she is from the 6th to 18th November and perhaps join in at a location near you!

“And this year, we’ve adapted our BLR Tracker mobile phone app so that everyone can download it and process donations from friends, family & students via text message.”

Grab the app

  1. Download the BLR Tracker app using the appropriate button below.
  2.   Open the app & select an amount – notice the QR code changes?
  3.  Ask the donor to scan the QR code with their phone.
  4. The donor’s phone opens their text message app, pre-filled with the correct number and message for the selected donation amount.  All they have to do is press Send!

Where are they?

Check in with the website here to see where Lou is along the 2,500 mile route. There’s even a handy button in the phone app to take you right to it as well.
The website also displays the total amount raised so far. This means you can see the difference you’re making!

Be proud, be a part of it

We know it’s difficult to ask for donations right now, but on behalf of the team at The Big Learner Relay, and here at MyDriveTime, we’re truly grateful that you’re helping to raise money for such a great cause; perhaps even for your future students.
