A Swedish company Luvly has developed a new flatpack electric car which it claims is also ultra-sustainable too.

The UK could be one of the first countries to see supplies of the new concept by Luvly, a Stockholm-based technology company.

Cheap and cheerful

These light urban vehicles (LUVs)  aim to create affordable access to ethical, safe passenger and cargo transport options. By democratising the benefits of a plug-in car with vehicles that are more practical, affordable, and efficient, they believe is is safer for pedestrians and other drivers than traditional vehicles. It means affordability for everyone to go green around towns and cities.

A unique flatpack solution, it enables assembly to take place closer to the end-user. It’s a concept that is drawing comparisons to fellow Swedish company IKEA.

If a driver purchases a Luvly vehicle, not only is electrically powered, buyers will also be reducing the carbon emissions and cost of shipping.

Uber urban

Targeted at those living in major towns and cities, the vehicle is the fifth of the weight of a typical electric car. It comes with a portable battery that can be removed and charged at your home or place of work.

By the end of 2023 you could be seeing them on our roads according to the company behind it.

A two-seater with a range of around 61 miles, it can reach 56mph. Excluding batteries, it weighs in at just 400kgs.

Powered by two removable batteries , the whole package will retail at around £8,600.

A clean start

“Luvly was founded on the belief that the negative aspects of cars – environmental harm, cost, danger to pedestrians and other road-users, space inefficiency – can be mitigated by combining modern technological solutions with futuristic design,” states Håkan Lutz, CEO and Founder of Luvly.

“Our light urban vehicles emphasise the values of positive communal living: consideration, temperance, and taking responsibility not just for yourself, not even just for your children, but also for your neighbour.

Lutz believes many people are looking to ditch their expensive polluting vehicles for a whole new concept. He believes “Luvly is poised to become a world-leader in the urban transport”.

Weight of expectations

LUVs (Light Urban Vehicles) accommodate up to four people or act as ‘last-mile’ goods transport.  They are optimised for city and commuter traffic with significant environmental, space, efficiency, and adaptability.

Their lightweight and smaller design features require less energy and cost to run and produce.

According to Luvly, energy consumption including production, shipping, and distribution is around 80% lower.
